Why Republicans should—and must—win in November
When they don’t, or they falter, the nation loses
Our situation is dire. International crises confront us in Europe, east Asia and the Middle East, our borders are wide open, the marketplace lacks economic rigor, crime is out of control, our schools are failing our children, the sexual revolution knows no end and our national debt can’t find one. This is not the recitation of the same old campaign fodder but a painful reminder that it makes all the difference which party we elect to govern us. Republicans have generally spared us many evils and that’s pretty much the way it is been for most of our history.
I have previously made the well-founded case that the nation was better off under the Trump Administration than the Biden fiasco. My larger point is that Republican presidents are better for us generally. How and why is that so? Because their principles and policies are a better fit for our nation that the Democrats’. That may come across as the party line, but it is true! The GOP has long stood for the very policies that are the best fit for the nation and best antidote for the current malaise.
The late Kansas Sen. Bob Dole frequently and abrasively hit on the theme of “Democrat wars.” He was referring to both world wars, Korea and Vietnam, the point being that had that party been stronger in defense of the nation, they could have been avoided. Of course, this is debatable but it’s decisive at all times and certainly relevant to the present world situation.
The father of our country, George Washington, made it bedrock policy to be always ready to fight wars in order to avoid having to fight them. We have never lost a war although we did fight two no-win wars in the 20th century, and are facing the possibility of no-winwars again here and now. The fact that we have survived our wars is owing to our nation’s prudence in enlarging our territory from coast to coast, and from Canada to Mexico. Presidents that are ready and prepared to fight have kept us safe for most of our history.
But painfully related to our ability to deter war and prevail in them is our badly managed border, especially to the south. The Biden administration has not ineptly but deliberately encouraged people from over 150 nations to cross into our towns, neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, and even, as the governor of Massachusetts proposes, to move into our homes! That is why Republicans have taken a stand against more military aid abroad until the border is closed.
We do not have a free economic system because Democrats today have sought to convert it into command and control. They started it with deficit federal financing and have produced a jumbled market with inflation running out of control. Most people in this country are seeing their budgets stretched each month as prices keep climbing with no end in sight.
Beginning in California, where the voters approved a ballot measure that increased the limit on how much merchandise can be stolen to 950 dollars, then other states following the lead reduced sentences for non-violent felonies, to ending bail for numerous other crimes. All this twisted thinking is a result of irrational theories about criminal behavior. The American polity has functioned and continues to function as long as law and order is central. Democrats are unraveling it before our very eyes.
In a country that has valued education almost from its beginning, if not before, the current move to lower standards in the name of racial equity or gender fluidity is the prime mover to this steady decline. Democrats and teachers’ unions shut down most of our schools unnecessarily during the pandemic scare. And uneducated citizenry is not up to the task of self-government. Good habits are formed during the classroom, no less than at home.
Closely related to the corruption of public education is the ever spiraling sexual revolution which has gone from women’s lib to gay rights, to transgenderism. The preamble to our Constitution dedicates us to preserving our liberty to all our posterity. There can be no posterity if the human races doesn’t understand that there are two sexes, the main purpose of which is to preserve itself. Democrats promote this confusion for the sake of gaining reliable voting blocs.
Just now the political parties in Washington are once again deadlocked over the federal budget. We have passed 33 trillion dollars and counting. Republicans want to finance the government but Democrats simply want the budget to be approved with no questions asked. Somehow Democrats mostly get the benefit of the doubt because of their conviction that all government programs are sacred.
I have contended here that the Republicans should and must win because their principles and policies are most compatible with the American way of life. It is common sense to realize that a free country requires a free government. For over a century Democrats have sought to undermine this combination, whether it was Woodrow Wilson’s New Freedom, Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal, Harry Truman’s Fair Deal, Jack Kennedy’s New Frontier, Lyndon Johnson’s New Society Barak Obama’s Transformation, and Joe Biden’s Bidenomics.
We know that sometimes politicians depart from their principles for compromise or advantage but my generalization holds that the two major political parties differ on how to rule America. As citizens we have the right and the duty to hold our leaders feet to the fire. But let us never forget that we are making decisions for the common good not merely picking winners and losers.
